Since I really want this site to stress God and Grace, I hesitate to write about myself. But I do see some value in providing readers with enough information to appreciate my background and how it might affect my beliefs and writings. So here are the highlights of my story:
I am a lifelong Methodist, son and grandson of Methodist pastors in South Carolina. My father became an Air Force Chaplain, taking our family to Texas, Okinawa, South Carolina and Turkey, where I graduated from high school as a boarding student. Although God called me to ministry as a teenager, college and 20 years of service in the U.S. Army Infantry intervened before I answered that call. I lived in Georgia, Germany, Florida, Alaska and South Carolina during my Army career. I have been married to the same wonderful woman since 1971, and our family is blessed with three married children and four grandchildren. I have served as pastor of several United Methodist churches in North Carolina since June, 1994.
